Everything in Beautiful Array

Everything in Beautiful Array

ABOUT THIS BOOK

This book is about holiness as it is set out in the Scriptures. Holiness is not what many consider it to be, a grim battle for purity, a series of negative 'Don'ts' and difficult 'Dos'.

Biblical holiness is connected with the oft-repeated statement, 'Worship the Lord in holy array' or 'Worship the Lord in beautiful array!' God was called 'the Holy One of Israel, thy Redeemer!' It was his love for his people which liberated them from that inner turmoil, and inordinate strife which we know as unholiness. Holiness is really being caught up into God's own holiness, and this is expressed in inexpressible worship. In the concrete things of every day holiness is a support for life that has an inner array when outside so much else in the world is disorientated and in disarray. One of the main endeavours of this book is to show that God, having created a world which was 'very good', set about to sanctify it by the time its history would be fulfilled.

In the end everything is to be holy. That means it will all be consecrated to him, gleaming with purity, serene in sanctity and dynamic in the kind of life and living which the human heart universally acknowledges is what creation should be all about. It will be that sort of array where the lion lies down with the lamb, where they shall not hurt of destroy in all the Creator-Redeemer's holy mountain. In the depths of the human heart there is a universal longing for peace, and this book aims to give us more than sight of it. It purposes to bring that holy peace to readers who desire it.
