Holy Spirit, Creation & Glory (The)

ABOUT THIS BOOK

God's Glorious Intention For His Creation

There is an oft-quoted Puritan formula that says, "The chief end of Man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever".

God created the world for His own glory and created Man to share that glory with Him. And that is a big purpose. If it Is true that God created the world to bring Man Into being, it is equally true to say that God's chief end of Man was to glorify Man and enjoy him forever!

When God glorifies Man, He gives him such moral glory that Man can be said to be a Kingdom of priests, serving God and serving the Creator for ever. And this requires great moral glory-the very glory which is God Himself That glory God gives to Man . . .

This glory works within Man, "both to will and to do of God's good pleasure", namely to glorify Man. This goal cannot be reached without the incarnated Christ Who is essential to the purpose for which God created. And the goal initially comes into view at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Creation and the Spirit of moral glory within that Creation, blazes forth in full measure to the world.

Christ's redemption of us is with a view to His glorifying, sanctifying and perfecting not only Man but the entire Creation. So we see that the Gospel does not stop at Man's redemption but leads redeemed Man to the place where he is able to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This is Man's glorious rest which is the object of God's intention for His Creation.
